My great, great, grandpap fought in the battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War for the Union and in many smaller skirmishes from VA to Gettysburg.
His name was George Calvin Fields and was born and lived in my hometown of Fairchance, PA till his death I think in 1901.
He enlisted in October 16th 1862 and served in company E of the 168th regiment of PA. His commander was Capt Joseph Stacey.
He was discharged in July of 1863.
He contracted inflammation of the eyes and rheumatism in Suffolk VA from sleeping outside without tents.
I have uploaded 5 PDF documents of his pension papers. If it does not work for you then you may need to download the latest version of Adobe reader 6.0
I found out that after he died his wife moved in a log cabin just down the road from where I live now:biggrin: I'll be detecting that foundation soon:biggrin:
Hope you enjoy the documents.
