Hello everyone. We had a great time this weekend even though the weather wasnt being nice to us. Sat morning rolled around and Calolinachief and his bud John came up to my Civil War hunting spot outside of New Bern and we hit the field around 9 am. We hunted the supply dump for a short bit and then headed out trying to find the skirmish line. After hunting for 3 hours in hurricane force rains, soaked to the bones we ended our adventure without so much as a thanks for comming bullet.
Not thirty minutes after they left the rain clouds blew away and out came the sun. We had a few erronds to do with the horse farm so after getting those done I headed out solo for the last 30 minutes of daylight left and found a haversack button, a tent eyelit and one of the prettiest silverware handles I have ever seen.
Sunday Morning roles around and out I go again solo. I only had about 15 minutes out before the rain came heavy again, luckily I had already dug my Confederate Bullet and was working on my second bullet (marked the hole and ran) when I ran for cover. When it started to clear up a bit I called A.J. and invited him down for some wet hunting.
After A.J. showed up we headed back to my path I was hunting. Working my way back down the path to were I marked my hole from earlier with me on one side and A.J. going down the other I uncovered 3 more Bullets and A.J. uncovered 1 bullet and 2 Button backs. With that we made plans for todays (Monday) hunt.
Today we got out around noon if I remember right and had some more fun digging around the very large property. We tried to find the second skirmish line and graveyard (all bodies have been moved but two) but with little luck, We know exactly where they are, but the undergrowth is very thick and was wearing us out, next time we are bringing a machetti to help. Mondays hunt turned up 4 more bullets for me, 2 for A.J. and 1 for my friend that we got hunting today for the first time. Pluss A.J. uncovered a complete button and what may be an old coin, but thats his story and ill let him tell it. thanks for reading my sloppy writing....HH...Bill

Hello,
Bill, that sounds like a super place to detect. Would love to just walk around at a place like that and dream of what had taken place there.
I hope each of you find a nice belt plate.

Good luck,

Greg

Those are some great finds:smile: Since i live way out west i will probably never have the opportunity to detect such historical places. I have ghost towns but i would much rather detect civil war battle and skirmish sites.

Good luck finding those relics!

Thanks ya'll. me and A.J. are already planning to go back out there tomorrow for some relic hunting. The place has had many detectorists over it throughout the years, but none within the last 10 years. I sit around and try to imagine place's that nobody would think to hunt, We found one of those exact places this past Sunday. Our next goal is to brave the brier patches and get in off of beating path and hunt beside the path we found most of these bullets and his buttons. A.J. is supposed to be comming over tonight for me to take pictures of his finds to post. He has a real interesting one that we are waiting for pappy to give his oppinion on what it is, its had us stumped for over a week now...HH...Bill

But I have lonnie on rank, he's the guys house we park at lol. Now for a more interesting and kinda creepy. I got an email from a fellow who said he lived in New Bern and read one of my posts on a relic forum, and retired from the Marines. He said he was having problems finding a place to hunt there. His username had his rank WO and part of his last name, first three letters, I asked him if he worked in a certain shop he emailed back and said yep he did, lol turned out to be my old Officer in charge. So now he will be hunting with us. HH....Bill
