Is there anyplace near Gettysburg where a person can go hunting? Within 75 miles.

Do a google search for "official record of the civil war". Being that the battle that basically ended the Civil War was fought at Gettysburg, you should have no problem finding sites in the vacinity.

Hello Mike and welcome to the TQ forum:bthumb:

The best way is to research what took place and where. You may get lucky to find a large farm to gain permission to hunt its land.

Good luck and let us know how you get along,

Greg:smile:

A guy in my home town is into civil war reacting, his group went to Gettysburg. He told me the private property owners are dead against anyone hunting due to years of being asked and treaspassing. There is something starting up down south for relic hunters. Some land owners are letting detectorists come hunt on the land for a fee to help pay the taxes so they can keep their land. I remember reading this but do not know where i seen the info. It might of been in a W&E or a lost treasure back issue.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to get on a old farm near a post action field hospital south of Gettysburg. Spent 2 days collecting trash before I finally found a CW musket ball. Was a great place to go. The people up there don't take kindly to most relic hunting. I don't guess I'll ever understand who it will benefit to leave the stuff in the ground.
Thanks

The part to understand and work with is they have been pressured for years to allow detecting. The taxes on some land owners have changed their thoughts on allowing hunting. See if any are open to the idea of paid in advance hunts with limited numbers of hunters for the oppertunity to hunt. I wish i knew where i had read this was happening so i could send you a link to what story.
