Here's the grip end of a single shot "deringer" style pistol I dug a few years ago around a cavalry camp. I still have not been able to find out who manufactured it but there are so many that are alike. Whish I had dug the barrel.

Hey Travis, I bet that was a rush when you flipped that out of the ground and I'm sure you looked hard for the barrel! Do you go back to the area and search in all metals mode? I feel your pain, wanting the remainder to complete the original piece but I just say "Thank You Lord For Giving Me This Piece"!

Yes Roger it was quite a rush. I hunted that area so hard for about two weeks but with no luck. There was so much metal in the ground! The man who owned the property said the area was a cavalry winter quarters and the ditch around the house was a trench. I, and my buddy, were skeptical about the trench part but got some good finds out of there. I also dug a breast plate and in one hole pulled a complete Spencer and three broken up ones. Tons of flat buttons and coins came up out of spot at the back of the property. Needless to say we hunted and hunted and hunted this spot! The owner had flag/pike tops that were hidden in the attic and some cannister rounds that he dug in his garden! I miss hunting there and when I go home again in the spring will go back for sure.

Would you have a link to a pistol like that one? I'd like to see what they look like...Thanks,

I am by far no expert, but, I dug one just like that several years ago and was told it was a TWISTER type. Over and under barrels, fire top barrel and TWIST it over to the other barrel. Hope this helps you out.
