A few years ago I dug this button where Custer's brigade of calvary fought 5 Virginia regiments of Gen McCauslands calvary at Lockes Ford during the Battle of 3rd Winchester. The button, I am told, is from Augusta Military Academy which suppposedly was not formed until 1865. 3rd Winchester was 1864. I found the button among some bullets and other CW items. does anyone have a button book that could verify the school founding date? I am still curious as to why it would be where I found it if it was an end of war button. I still count it as Confederate though! LOL!
