I is ok to metal detect at any of the sites you listed above??? I am fairly new to the hobby.

I am in the process of locating the camp/skirmish sites in Chattooga County GA - skirmishes took place twice at Tryon Factory, Henderson's Gap, and at Tapp's Gap in Chattooga County, however they were overshadowed by the battle that took place just a few days later - Chickamauga.

Any help you could provide to a new relic hunter would be appreciated.

If any of the sites are listed as National or State protected sites then make sure you know where there boundries are and then... stay away!!!!!! As I do not live in GA. I don't know if any of the smaller skirmish/ battle sites are protected. Most times they are not so then it is up to the local land owner to decide if they want to give permission. Remember to always ask!

christophernixon, welcome to the forum, and welcome to a great hobby. There are several sites that i have listed that are, national parks, and protected sites. These are off limits just as Travis stated.

The places that you stated are part of the "Chickamagua Campaign" all are either camps or skirmish sites. I would recomend you go to your local library and get the book "Prelude to Chickamagua" Written by Rick Byrd.

I will do some research to help you,but get the book. Everything you are looking for is in it.
