My finds on 12-17-2005

Showing everything worth keeping. The Bell reads: DR. BELL'S / PINE TAR HONEY / CURES COUGHS on both sides with part of a brass chain. The button with the black center is back marked EXTRA TREBLE STANDARD. The coin button is back marked * WARRANTED * SURFACE? The stitched scan shows the Butt Plate I dug Thanksgiving Day after cleaning and the Butt Plate I dug yesterday.
The Sword Hook is broken but shows the head with eyes and most of the body of a snake. The disc beside the coin button is off a Maynard Cartridge. The lead square may have been an attempt to make counterfeit quarters? It has the derpession of the back of a Seated Liberty Quarter with a raised "X" and with what looks to be a pour entrance. I have no idea of then intentions of this one!

Well I'd say those are some cool finds Roger! I like the coin mold a lot. I'll be that way next week.....don't I wish!

Hey, Roger. I found one of these in Scottsboro, Al. A elderly woman at church said she took the syrup when a little girl. Tasted awlful!! The bell was attached to the top of the bottle with a gold thread. The child who got the last spoonful got to keep the bell as an ornament. Neat, eh? Years later, I was given a bunch of old bottles from Fl. Guess what? Right, there was Dr. Bell's cough syrup bottle! Bought a peice of gold thread and hung it on the bottle. Have a great Christmas, and many more finds in the coming year.banner
