Hey everyone! I am on a quest to find a camp that can't be more than 2 miles from my home. I need all the help I can get. How do I research? All I have is hear say of were it might have been! Were do I start? I need information on were they might have set up a camp. Would it be right on a creek. Or would they have camped a half a mile away or so? There was a small community here at that time, a few buildings maybe 2,3,or 4 and now only a church left, and a cemetary with soldiers buried. I checked at the public library-nothing and the small community that I live in only a paragraph of information is all I could find on it. There are homes, 3 creeks and lots of woods.
Help!

PAT, You may want to check with the OLDER FOLKS in your community too. They have possibly heard of the camp from their family members....PAPPY :D :D :D

Gregory I sent you a message and Pappy all of the information I have came from the elders of the community. I do have one lady I need to contact if I can get her number. She is suppose to be the eldest living from this community.
Thanks for those tips and if anyone has any more keep them coming!

PAT, If there was a camp there for sometime you may want to look for any trenched out areas too. They would have trenched for protection. If you find trenches then look for the higher ground and it should be pretty near a water source of some type.....PAPPY :D :D :D

Hey it is me Pat again, I am going to ask this question again, in another way-So some others may get involved.
If you where trying to find a camp and had just a hint that there might have been a camp near you, when it comes to research, where would you start? How would you go about locating it? What would you look for?
How about your input!

PAT, I have learned over the years that the first and most valuable place to start is the COUNTY COURTHOUSE. You can review ANY of their public records and make notes on your own. The only cost involved will be when you make copies. LAND DEEDS, WILLS, SURVEY MAPS and ON AND ON. TRY THIS AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIND ANY INFORMATION...HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING !!!...PAPPY :D :D :D
P.S. TOPO MAPS ARE OF SPECIAL INTEREST WHEN RESEARCHING THIS KIND OF THING.....PAPPY :D :D :D

I know it is a genealogy link but as you click the state and the county you need, you will also find info on civil war most of the time.
