Recently myself and some other New Bern area diggers have been digging a CW camp area. From this site we have dug a lot a knapsack rivets, J hooks, and other brass from CW knapsacks. I thought it might be cool to post pics of an actual knapsack from the war so that all would get an idea of where these items are located on the knapsacks. These pics were sent to me by a historian, collector, and bullet guru (and a new acquaintance of mine) from the Gettysburg area. He was kind enough to take these pics for me to post here for all to see.

Nice finds Warren. The straps look like they are in great condition after all those years in the ground. How did the shoes come out? Would like to see a snap of them if you have time to post!
Here are some brass knapsack pieces I have dug. Working on finding a roller buckle (or two) off a knapsack. Notice the rivet at the top of this pic. It still has leather on it!

everything in the mud was preserved, no patina on bullits or brass. the stitching in the shoes rotted away, but you actually can still smell the leather!! I'll post a pict of them after I get them out of freeze dry. tnks!!
