Got these new bullets about 2 weeks ago. Since the two of them are near to impossible to dig anymore I had to buy them! The two are a .69 cal Gardner with deep cavity (rarest of the Gardners) and a 3 piece Shaler. The Shaler was intended to break apart upon firing thus increasing the chance of a hit. But due to lack of a good take on the barrel's rifling the two small pieces were very inaccurate. Thanks for looking!

Nice Finds (purchases) Travis! I have a Shaler in my collection that I purchased. I also have two shallow cavity .69 Gardners in my collection (both dug my myself) but not the deep cavity version! Do you think the seller from whom you purchased your might have another for sale or trade? Was your bought outright or through eBay?

Nice Additions! HH, Roger

Hey Mark,
Around here it seems that there are fewer and fewer bullets to dig, atleast for me! I wish I had a back hoe to hit that trench line over Bachelor Creek. I went out back in the end of Feb., stood inside the trench, dug straight down three feet by three feet and did not get a thing!!!!!:banghead: I need to get in there and really tear it up. I have a feeling that sooner or later it will be developed. I heard that someone bought some of that property and may be doing some clearing of the woods. I will try to drive out there and find out whats going and let ya' know! If any clearing does take place it will be relic heaven!

Unless they were planning on selling other parts of the property sense I left. The only part that WAS for sale was on the other side of the corral and straight back to the old barn beside lonnie and levons house. And to the side about half way to the middle of the coral. Nothing was for sale back twords the skirmish lines....HH.....Bill

You are right Bill. I did not mean to imply that the rifle pits were sold or would be developed right now! Sorry! A road was started back through the woods some time ago and I followed it one day. The road went way on back through that property! I hunted it several times till ole' shake and spit started to come out. I HATE A SNAKE! Well, hate is a strong word but that area is full of them! Hit a spot that yielded 5 bullets, two button backs, rivets, some J hooks, clay pipe pieces and other stuff.
The fella I talked to said that it was his understanding that the person who bought the property wanted to clear it and be able to put horses there! Any clearing back in that area would turn up relics. I have stalked back through some of the thickest areas back there and was surprised at what I was turning up, like the Navy button! I would not mind some of that thick scrub being cleared anyway!
I hope all is well up there and we would be happy to have ya'll back to NC.

you know, one of the biggest things I miss about MD'ing in NC was the support system we all had. You know the system im talking about, like, " you *&$%+*#& you didnt find that out there did you?" or seeding the places ol' A.J. would hunt. Or figuring out where everyone else was going to hunt and get in the day before them and find everything before them. You know, I dont think ive ever cursed as much as I did around ya'll (all in fun). And never have been around such friendly people as the 5 of you I hunted with. The only bad thing is, I really wish Kelvin and Jon would have found more relics. Its great to dig one up, but I love to see the looks on people's faces when they dig there first CW relic (i know i did my happy dance).

I would love to hit that campsite again sometime. (I never did get all the way back to the trenches). Just let me know when you want to try it again...I've got a new coil I'm ready to try out!
