I'm not sure this will work or not I tried with a cheap digital camera and it wouldn't focus close enought for any detail, so I will try scaning. These buttons have been in my junk box for years uncleaned. I was messing around with electrolysis and did one of these buttons and was surprised at how well it came out. The backs are rusted away for the most part.I don't know anything about buttons but these looked like civil war to me from some others I've saw. Hope the pictures are clear enough for someone to identify them for me . (If I can figure out how to do this) Thanks to you all.......Richard

Try this when you scan the buttons do a preview first then crop the area of the button this will make the image larger and I might be able to help ID some.

Hi Will, I hope this works better than the last time couln't find a place to crop the pics. on here so I rescaned them and resized them after about four trys I finally got them to fit on here. Thank you for looking and trying to I.D. the buttons for me. The first is nickel size; next 2 half dollar and quartersize; two more slightly smaller than a dime; Probably Civil. quarter and penny size; unknown the HR script was a duplicate both penny size. I have one more but this post is full will send another. Thank You and the best of luck to you....Richard

Thanks for the repost Gizmo! It appears that most of those buttons are non-dug? If that is the case then are the backmarks legible? If so can you also post the back marks? This is a great help in determining the age of these buttons.

they are all dug I was expermenting with electrolysis and they cleaned up pretty good. I have had these buttons in my junk box since the 70's. The backs are rusted away so bad nothing can be read on them. I really doubt if they are CW but they do have some age on them. I found these in Illinois when I lived up their. Thanks for your help and the very best of luck to you.......Richard

WOW! I actually had no idea electrosys would do so well on buttons!! Very well done Gizmo! My initial thought is that they are post CW. But I will continue to examine them for you!
