As Tom H. remarked to me recently that I'm a cartridge monster! Well, I don't know about that but I've been bidding on several on eBay. I received three today and two more on the way from the same seller. I'm unsure about the paper cartridge.....it looks like cartridge #69 in the MM book but this one is a .38 cal. The #116 - 7mm Pin Fire & #100 .28 cal. Plant revolver.

Thanks For Looking,
Deer Season Closed Yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice additions Roger! It certainly appears that the "Dark Side", as Tom also calls it, has taken you into its grasp!

Roger,

Now we have you... say goodbye to the concept of "extra money".

Nice specimens and a nice start on a cartridge collection.

The paper cartridge looks like an Eley for Needle Gun in 90 bore (approximately .38cal). Is there a label on the bottom of the cartridge? Also, email me some dimensions and I can get a positive ID.

Again, welcome to the dark side!!!!!

.....everytime I find a drop cartridge! Sometimes they have a hole eroded in the side, and the powder leaking out, sometimes not! In either case, it's still a thrill!

These drops were found on various 1860's Indian Wars battlesites in Colorado/Kansas.

Roger et. al.,

I got a new cartridge this week too, after several years of looking for a clean .69cal paper cartridge one finally surfaced on the dreaded Bay. Seems like these are getting harder to find each day and some torn and repaired ones are now demanding prices that I would normally associate with a clean specimen.

A nice start to 2007! Yipee!!!!!

BTW:

This was my last find, a pristine Augusta Arsenal Buckshot from the Nashville show, complete with xray!

I'm still thrilled about this one, this is a cartridge that I have wanted for nearly a decade and to find one in this condition, and at a remarkably good price, put a fine finish to 2006 for me and my collection.

Once you venture over to the Dark Side you never can go back!

Wonderful Brass cartridge finds there Chuck. Some appear to have been highly polished! Tell me You didn't remove the Patina in such a manner!
Lovely Paper cartridges there Tom! You should have another one soon.....!
Maybe I'll take my last cartridge (Tranter or Adams) to my Dentist and get it X-rayed!

Continued Good Luck Collecting.....digging or buying!
Have Fun, Roger

Roger,

Ah, the sometimes disappointing world of paper cartridges. That .69 turned out to be a .58 and is going back to the seller. When it arrived, I thought it was a bit long for a .69 and Jim Thomas and I measured it last night, and lo and behold, it had an outside diameter of .61 at the bullet end. Oh well, the search for a .69 goes on.

Folks,

I started 2007 out with what I bought as a .69cal 3 groove paper cartridge but it turned out to be a .58cal and went back to the dealer. Thanks to Stan Hughes my search for a .69cal 3 groove finally ended the beginning of this year with this beauty!

The second cartridge is one that I got at the end of last year, an unusual .69cal Buck and Ball cartridge with the .69 ball at the end of the cartridge and the buck between it and the powder charger. It was sold as a .69 roundball cartridge but, when I got it home, I was able to feel the three buckshot below the big ball.

Really nice cartridges!
The buck & ball with the ball at the end of the cartridge and the buck between it and the powder does make better since for rolling but I have never seen one like that.

Roger ,very nice looking bullet cartridges, I'm glad you found a good dealer to buy them from. My one and only E-bay Civil war relic buy did not turn out to be the real deal(Did get my money back and still have the 2 fake NC sunburst buttons), I'm planning on posting them at some time. Get out soon and dig some more!!gary
