I recently found a small disc I first thought was maybe a coin when I first saw it. Picked it up and it is very thin. There were some designs on the front and the back is smooth. Under magnification I was able to make out what appears to be "NC" in the center circle and a bunch of rays? extending out from it. It may be the face of a button. Now my question. How can I clean it to see the detail without ruining it? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. The picture below is what I am thinking it could be. Looks a lot like that under magnification. I want to be able to clean it up and take pics to post and actually be able to tell what it is.

If what you found looks like that button in the picture then you have a CW NC Sunburst button!!! Very, Very Nice CSA find!
I would use a little Naval Jelly on it. This jelly is pretty corrosive but if you rub a dab on it for a few seconds then rinse really well it should bring out any gilt left on the button! I know that True Value hardware stores sell the jelly. Just be very careful. I also have used CLR (calciun, lime rust remover). With CLR I dip a wet soft tooth brush in it then hold the button under running water and gently scrub the button. CLR is also very corrosive so be careful. you can buy CLR just about anywhere!
Some people soak their buttons in olive oil but I have yet had any succes with it taking any of the ground crud off a button!
Hope this helps and looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

I cleaned it up some and it is in rough shape but this is a picture of the button I found. You can now make out the NC in the center. I may try to do a little more cleaning and see if I can bring it out even better.
