Thanks Ray. I wasn't sure about the button. In my search for the ID of this button, I couldn't find any information about it. Do you know of any good books that can help in the future with similar items?

There are a couple of good military button books worth having! One is by Alpheus Albert called Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons.
The other is by William McGuinn and Bruce Bazelon and is called American Military Button Makers and Dealers: Their Back Marks and Dates.

The first book can be had for about $45 and the second can be found at about $25.

Oh! Almost forgot! A third book by by Warren Tice called Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865. It runs at about $50.

These are all good books and worth having if you dig a lot of buttons! As far as which is best is just a matter of preference! Hope this helps!

By the way Welcome to the forum and really nice button you got there!

Hey Geoatplay,
Your button is post c.w. because of the lettering on the back and a measurement on the O.D. should confirm this.....still a nice find from the WWI or WWII era.

Good Luck, HH, Roger
Stating this from a button I found in the middle of C.W.HEAVEN!
