Hey Will,

Had that baby yet? You guys might want to go ahead and induce as it might interfere with my trip to W-TN... we wouldn't want that!

Just kidding... got 2 boys of my own (5 and 2)
I'm just glad we had them before I got into relic hunting...
Probably would have missed their births.

Wes,

This is no joke..back when I started to really find relics and nice bullets that sort of thing.. I could focus on anything. Seemed like everyone I spoke with I tried to find out if they had land were it was and If I could hunt it.. You know what that still hasn't changed...Just the other night I had a dream about digging some civil war artillery. But he bad part was I couldn’t get to and the whole dream we me devising a plane of how to get it out...Guess I need to cut back on the research.. Here lately I have really turned toward artillery and would love to find a nice whole shell or cannon ball .. Man that would be cool..

Just so you know it's something about that lead after you dig your first one you can hang it up. After digging my first bullet It did something to me inside Not sure what but I do know how to control it a bit and that’s hunt for more

YEEEEEEHHAAAAWWWW let go digging

Are you sure you weren't just describing me?
I feel like my obsession is caused by several factors:

1. Relic hunting has a strong tie to any child's dream of finding buried treasure.
2. I'm a bit obsessive compulsive... makes for a good relic hunter...well, at least persistent :)
3. There's such a strong tie to the past in finding relics... someone actually used, held, shot, or dropped what you are finding. In the case of CW relics, the objects are tied to such a dramatic, tragic, grand event that you can't help but feel the weight of history in every relic.

One bonus is that I'm reading more now than I have in a long time... the research is also quite fun.

With all this heat (not much digging) I've been exploring ways to tie relic hunting to what I do for a living (Illustration, Animation) so I can spend more time in the hobby while still making money... then I can write off my detectors :)

Now for the big tie in to your original post... of which I have derailed.
Tom Dickey expresses a real love of just being out there... not neccessarily in the "find". I truly believe him when he talks about it... I on the other hand, am not that way.. when I'm out, I want to find a bullet... I hate being skunked. I hope to be e little more like Tom at some point.

Let me say this . There are several things that play in here….and not finding any relics can SUCK..but if you have good hunting buddies with you to make the day fun..That can help. I know on bad days by my self they really suck..and on bad days with friends them seem ok..I’m ok as long as I’m talking relics or researching, but the moment I have to focus on other things that’s when I start wondering..What if I missed something…If I could have only found a map…I know the general area I’m gonna find it one day !!

Yes there is something very touching about the civil war and the relics we dig from the past.. It was a very different war. I personally have always been a civil war buff..I just never knew you could actually go out and find relics..Now I find myself praying for longer Fall weather seasons and nice warmer winters so I can hunt longer!!

Good luck to everyone this weekend I think it’s gonna cool off a little and I’m gonna try to make another round at finding some artillery….but maybe this time I want kill myself
