Mess Plate

Here's a pic of the mess plate (?) found this weekend. If anyone has an idea that it may be something else, please let me know. It's solid brass with a steel wire in the edge.

That's a hub cap off a 1864 Volkswagen!
I've never found a complete one, only a section and I believe You are correct!

That disappoints me, when I first dug it, I thought it was from an 1863 Packard. Then I noticed it didn't have any rust on it, and that it was really heavy. After I cleaned it up, I found all the cuts in the bottom of it. Will told me to look for them, they're knife cuts. I'm really suprised that it hadn't been found before now. It was only 4-6 inches deep, and almost blew my headphones off.

Danny that is a really neat relic and a heck of a find...The whole blowing the headphones off is the truth.. Man that sound would have made my heart skip
