Had to hunt today! It is in the 70's and beautiful except for the 40mph winds. Hit the same site I have been working on for awhile now. I pulled out 4 wheats, one real pretty 1913, this buckle, and this bullet which I need an ID on. It is 3cm tall and about 1.5 thick. It also comes in weighing 28 grams. Any ID help is appreciated. Thanks and Keep Swinging.

Hi Carolinachief
By your dimensions I think up got a .58 caliber Gardner.

Hey Carolinachief
Your dimensions given in centimeters are kind of off I think?
Your Gardner looks a lot more like a .54 caliber.
Do you have a micrometer that reads in decimals?

Wilder,
No micrometer. I was measuring with a little measuring thing my wife uses in her sewing. Measurements are close though in centimeters.

Hi Carolinachief
I understand, the odd thing about Gardner’s is that the swaged skirt around the bullets base gets expanded by wicking water between the two base circles freezing so the very bottom will measure a lot larger in diameter than it does at the center band.
The center band is a more accurate way to tell the caliber of a Gardner, a nice find!
