Has anyone found a 3 groove minie with a raised bar in the cavity?
I think it may be a mark left by a swaging dye but I am not sure.
This is an Augusta Arsenal minie which has a lot of variations to the cavities.
I dug this one near Kennesaw Mountain Georgia.
I have seen one other bar marked cavity but it wasn’t an Augusta pattern minie.
Thanks!

Wilder,

I think that is just an anomoly.

Well I suppose it could be an anomaly but it is clear that the plug base extends undisturbed around the ends of the bar.
The ridge around the plug base indicates that a secondary tool was inserted into the cavity such as for swaging although it isn’t known as to what this tool looked like.
If the bar was impressed I could see it more as an anomaly but being raised to a fairly high height it appears to me to be the result of a manufactured tool being intended or not.
No more of an anomaly than a raised dot?

Tom, Wilder,

I have one in my collection and I do not think it is an anomaly but a good marking. The raised bar is same equal ditance from edge of plug bottom. I am not sure how to upload a scan of the bullet or I would put one with this. If you want a picture of mine I will be glad to email a copy to you. Here are the dimensions I have on mine.

Tom H. it is on the SCWB2 CD, 07-110 I got it listed in the USA bullets. Wilder, if you email me I will send you an email with the scan if you do not have the CD.

59-caliber 3-groove rifle/musket punched & turned sprue plug nose bullet.
Bullet: .586 diameter x 1.047 long with 1 raised mark in plug cavity.
