eagle item needs I.D.

hello all found this at an old cellar site that has produced military buttons from the 1830's to about the civil war era the item is pretty heavy not flimsy metal , looks like brass on the back there's three button loop type shanks . any info and i would be most grateful .Dan

Nice find Dan! Is the chain attached to the piece? I've never seen anything like it. I'll see what I can find.

thanks for the reply Roger, yes the chain is attached and pretty good too.
but it don't look welded or glued , maybe it is brazed on. I'd appreciate any info you might find out . i know that a few staff officer buttons have been found in the area in question if thats any help
