Very nice springfield and looking at the side plate of
the flintlock it looks like a 1763 charleville its
French and the Happer's Ferry flintlock has
a side plate like it to, and your gun is short
like carbine hope this helps

Dave,

Very nice Springfield Model 63 Type II (AKA Model 64). Looks like it is in excellent shape. I agree with reirelics about the flintlock being French but think it has been altered for cav use. I don't know much about French weapons but I will see what I can find out.

Here are my two latest finds, the first is a British Rifle Musket Pattern 1853 (AKA P-53 Enfield) with a 61 dated Tower Lock. It is missing the rear sight but everything else is original. It came from the Eckert/Rosensteel Round Top Museum auction a couple of weeks ago.

... and a 63 Dated Tower P-53 Enfield that followed me home from an auction last weekend. This one has near perfect stampings and is all original with an outstanding bore.

TomHVERY NICE GUN TOM! MY DAD SAID A FEW OF THE PARTS ON THE FLINTLOCK ARE NOT ORIGINAL.A FREIND OF HIS ADDED SOME MISSING PARTS WHEN MY DAD BOUGHT THE GUN YEARS AGO.I BELEIVE HE SAID WHERE THE FLINT GOES A PIECE WAS MISSING AND SOME OTHER PART?IT'S NOT IN THAT GOOD SHAPE AS THERE IS SOME MISSING WOOD ON PART OF THE STOCK NEAR THE BARREL.BUT IT'S A COOL GUN AND YUP IT HAS THE SADDLE RING FOR CAVALRY RIDER.I DON'T KNOW ALOT ABOUT GUNS BUT SO MUCH HISTORY IN THE PISTOLS AND RIFLES HE HAS. THE ETHAN ALLEN DERRINGER IS NUMBER 49 IN PRODUCTION AND I THINK HE SAID ONLY A FEW THOUSAND WERE MADE.AND THE OTHER ETHAN ALLEN PISTOL HE SAID IS A PEPPERBOX? IT HAS A 5 SHOT BARRELL ON IT THAT TURNS LIKE A GATALIN GUN..VERY COOL!
WELL TAKE CARE AND HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Dave,

Tell your Dad that the number on the Ethan Allen is actually a "batch" number and not a serial number. Allen (and his various partners) used batch numbers and a batch could be up to a couple of hundred guns.

If you can send some closeups of the Allen pepperbox I can give you some more info. I have a couple of them and found an out of print book from the 1800's that has all the info about their manufacture. The scrollwork will actually tell you where and when it was manufactured.

Later,
TomH
