New guy here, and I'm afraid I don't have a digital camera. I found a Naval Button on an old indian habitation site in northern Minnesota. Area with villages from the 1600's right up to the late 1800's. In Albert's "Record Of American Uniform And Historical Buttons" Bi-Centennial Edition It's "somewhat" similar to speciman's "NA101" and "NA102". The backmark on the one found is either "G.W. Farant * Norfolk VA" or "G.W. Fanant Norfolk VA". Albert has a "Farrent" listed but this button is not that spelling and for certain does not have two r's.
Googled etc. for "Farant" and "Fanant" with no luck. Perhaps one of you button and/or CW experts could steer me on this?
What the heck was this doing on a Minnesota indian site?? Trader buy a bunch of buttons surplus or....?
Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to respond. I sincerely appreciate it.
