movements of troops in southern wva

ive tried to find out where the small battles were around here but cant find any maps were they were.one was at chapmanville and the union troops left here and went to logan and stayed a while making raids into kentucky?any help would be helpful ...

i cant find any info about in the offical records atlas. have found many unpublished maps there.offical records may have clues such as stream or homeowners names.

Any idea about the dates we are looking at here. I found several maps of West Virginia but do not know where to locate Chapmanville at. I figured it was around 1861-62 as that corresponds with a couple of maps I have on file but I do not know the name of the surrounding towns and if they have changed like they normally do over time.

you got the dates about rite the towns closest to chapmanville would be madison in boone county or logan in logan county.union troops burnt the court house in madison then headed to logan co thanks for you help hh

i tried. might try the words logan courthouse and boone courthouse as they were called in the 1860s.

tom, i have got some info thru cornell university,letters from military comanders.still leaves every thing a little sketchy.troop movement between man and beckly and charleston and logan were mosty patrols of calvery.found were the union troops had put some cannons along the guyandotte river between cviile and logan ..thanks again hh

e mail the archives and see if they might have a map or info about what you are looking for. e history has a list of all battles and skirmishs in W.Va,with info to go with them.good luck.
