Question One big hole... the beginning

Ok here's the scenario,I'm hunting its about 7:45PM. Here in central Va.
I hunt with a Nautilus, and had just passed into a new section of woods. I swing for maybe 20ft. When I get this HUGE freight train of a signal. So I start digging and digging still getting that sweet tone...
So now I'm down about 18-24 in. I start finding tar and real thin sheet metal I mean like old school bee can thin. And still my machine is honking, insisting that there is something really good down there I'm still chipping away at the tar and metal, and I lose my last scrap of daylight. I marked the spot on my GPS and sadly I might add fill my hole.

Now here I guess is where I come to my question.
Before I go back out here and give myself a heart attack digging this hole again. Does anyone have any ideas on what I have found? I was telling myself once I started finding the tar and metal that I had found a dropped shot canister? I know it's sick isn't it...
Anyway looking for any ideas or advice.

Thanks for looking

Jamie.

Nope, not yet. It's on the list though. I might hit it again in the next couple of weeks, long as the weather holds.
It's over in the area of the 895 extenion, so it's not far, just gotta get my hindparts in gear. the spring honeydo list can't be too far off

Hmmm....you may need a backhoe for that one Jamie! Or at least an additional strong back and shovel...

Hi Jamie, did you dig around the perrimeter to see how much of an area it covers? That might give you a clue to what it is. Since it is in the woods I would do that , then carefully dig down along side it a little at a time all around it very carefully
and giving yourself plenty of room in the hole around it. You might end up with a lsrge hole but that is ok. That coating might be something that was put on it just to pretect some valuables inside. By exposintg the top and part of the side you could see if it is dangerous or not.If you are not sure after you expose it ,try to geta pic of it. You might be better able to determine more about it.
Take care and HH.
Ray
